Steven Brett Toth's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Brett Toth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and cherished friend, who departed this life on July 15, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 71.
Born in Houston Texas on November 15, 1953, Steve lived a life defined by service, devotion, and unwavering love for his family and community. He was a proud student of the University of Houston and remained a lifelong fan of the UH Cougars. Following school, he entered Houston Police Academy class #66 in 1974 and proudly served over 30 years with the Houston Police Department, a distinguished career marked by integrity, leadership, and compassion. His dedication continued well into retirement, serving on the board of the Houston Police Retired Officers Association and remaining an active member of the Houston Police Officers Union. His commitment to helping others extended far beyond his profession—he spent a lifetime helping others and volunteering with various organizations, always lending a helping hand when it was most needed.
Steve found joy in the simplest and most meaningful aspects of life: spending time with his loved ones and cheering on his favorite teams. He was a passionate sports fan—baseball, football, softball, hockey, and rugby were among his favorites—and even more enthusiastic when those games included his grandchildren, whom he supported at every opportunity. Whether attending games, concerts, ceremonies, or school presentations, Steve was a steady presence, offering encouragement, pride, and unconditional love.
He was a man of deep faith and lived each day as a devoted Christian, honoring his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in both word and deed.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents Josef and Sybil Webb Toth, his sister Jo Ann Toth, and his niece Heather Warkentin. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his loving wife, Kari Toth, daughter Tammie McCorvey, son-in-law Thomas McCorvey, and grandchildren Hannah, Maddux, Garrett, and Thomas J. McCorvey. He is also remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews: Josef White and his children Brendan and Eric, and Curtis Kuntz and his children Christina and Katelyn.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24th, from 6:00-9:00 pm at Joseph Earthman Generations in Houston. Funeral services will commence on Friday, July 25th with visitation from 10:30-10:45 am and service at 11:00 am at Sugar Land Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories in Houston at 1:30pm.
