Steven Joseph McNamara's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce that, on May 2, 2025, Steven Joseph McNamara, beloved father, trusted brother and valued friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 64.
Steve was a native Texan born on August 4, 1960 in Houston. He is survived by son Connor James McNamara, daughter Paige Kathryn McNamara, and brother Patrick John McNamara. He was preceded in death by his brother Kevin James McNamara, father Kenneth John McNamara, and mother Patricia Kennedy McNamara.
Steve graduated from J. Frank Dobie High School in Houston in 1978 with a National Merit scholarship along with a scholarship to the University of Texas Engineering program. He was a dedicated Longhorn, earning both his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering (1982) from the University of Texas at Austin and later earning his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law (1990) where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif, graduating near the top of his class.
In spite of Steve’s love for all things UT, that love was eclipsed by his pride in his children, both of whom attended Texas A&M. He proudly wore an ‘Aggie Dad’ t-shirt.
Steve’s successful law career spanned nearly 35 years. At the office, he was known for his sharp and witty sense of humor and was a valued member of the weekly Tex-Mex lunch group. In 2021 he struck out on his own and created the Law Office of Steven J. McNamara, enjoying working from home and spending more time with family and friends.
Steve’s love for his children, his passion for the arts, his generous spirit, and his unmatched wit left an impact on all who crossed his path. As the son of a piano teacher, Steve adopted the cello early in life and became a first chair cellist in his high school orchestra. His continued passion for music, which ranged from Yo Yo Ma to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bruce Springsteen, saw him serve on the Advisory Board of HSPVA Friends and as a board member on the Houston Youth Symphony Board of Directors. He will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Evelyn's Park, 4400 Bellaire Boulevard, in Bellaire, Texas. Please join us in celebration of Steve and bring your favorite stories to share. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made online to HSPVA Friends Essentials Fund (www.hspvafriends.org/give).
