It is with heavy hearts we announce that, on May 2, 2025, Steven Joseph McNamara, beloved father, trusted brother and valued friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 64. Steve was a native Texan born on August 4, 1960 in Hous Read Obituary
My condolences to his children. Steve was a man. A few words always had a smile on his face good attitude treated me with respect and dignity. He also had a great sense of humor. I am saddened by his loss and I hope his children can find peace and knowing that he was a great man, and a great role model.
For most of my career at the firm, Steve and I would always banter back and forth about all things Aggie and Longhorn. When his children decided to attend Texas A&M the pride beamed from him, as if he'd never even worn burnt orange. Over the years, since Steve left the firm, we would still catch up on calls, purportedly about client matters, but really just to keep up our Aggie and Longhorn discussions (and to hear about his children, whom he loved dearly). Rest in peace, friend. And as an honorary Aggie, may I declare "Here."
Similar to JoAnn's note, Steve was one of the very first to make me feel truly welcome when I moved into the Sewell & Riggs offices with the "Gardere" group. I will always cherish and appreciate his smile, warmth, generosity, kindness, professionalism and (most of all) friendship. And I, too, will always fondly remember the Mexican food lunches that Steve was an integral part of...the restaurants (i.e., dives), the fun and witty banter, the laughter, the regular participants, and the consistency! I never heard ANYONE EVER say a negative word about Steve. He was one of a kind!
Steve was a smart lawyer and a great colleague. But he was also one of the funniest guys I've ever known. One of our senior partners once noted that he had attended Texas Law School many years before Steve did. Without missing a beat, Steve added, "the only difference is that I drove a Pinto to Austin, while you rode a Pinto." I'm going to miss Steve.
He was not only my boss he was part of my family aswell as his kids we could spend hours talking about his kids he adored his kids for me he was one of the best dad’s i will always miss him.
When I joined Sewell & Riggs I had no idea how to integrate myself into my new firm. One day early on my phone rang and it was Steve. “Want to get Mexican food for lunch? Meet at 11:30 by the elevators.” I had no idea who Steve was but met him at the appointed time and place. That was my induction into the weekly Mexican food lunch group, and true introduction to the law firm. Many of the people in that group continue to be my close friends years later. I will always appreciate Steve’s kindness in reaching out to include a newbie. That is just the kind of guy he was.
One time, Steve and I were watching the movie Wayne’s World and when the scene came on where Wayne and Garth are driving down the street in Garth’s AMC Pacer with their friends in the back, all of them banging their heads in unison to the climax of Bohemian Rhapsody, Steve said “That is so me and my friends in High School.” It’s an image of Steve I always kept and loved. I’m going to miss you, my friend.
