Elvia McFadden's Obituary
Elvia McFadden, aged 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, lovingly surrounded by her family. Elvia was born in Cali, Colombia to Virginia Rebolledo and Manuel Burgos. After losing her father, Elvia was raised by her mother and aunts until she moved to the United States with her mother at the age of 13.
Elvia pursued her education at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City where she became a registered nurse. She went on to the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her Bachelors degree in Nursing. After taking a break to raise her children, she returned to nursing in 1986, joining the care team at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston where she served patients with remarkable compassion.
Over a 58 year marriage to Stephen McFadden, Elvia and Stephen experienced life across many countries, embracing new cultures and forming lasting friendships.
Elvia’s life revolved around devotion to faith and family. Though she never fully realized how deeply she was admired and loved, her gentle strength, wise counsel, and spontaneous acts of kindness touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen McFadden; children Teresa (Marcus) George, Bryan (Claudia) McFadden, John Paul (Jackie) McFadden, and Michael McFadden; grandchildren Michael and Nicolas George, Alexander and Olivia McFadden, and Abigail, Luke and Riley McFadden. She was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Burgos, her mother, Virginia Rebolledo, and by many aunts and uncles whose memory she cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Elvia’s name to the National Shrine of St. Jude at shrineofstjude.org, whose ministry of hope and healing was dear to her heart.
Elvia McFadden’s faith was not only practiced—it was lived. May her kindness be remembered and her love passed forward through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glen Loch Drive in The Woodlands, Texas.
