Nyda Powers Terry's Obituary
Nyda Powers Terry, 79, of Houston, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on August 18, 2025. Born on July 19, 1946, in Alexandria, Louisiana, Nyda lived a life filled with love, laughter, resilience, and deep faith.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Nyda’s heart belonged to her daughters Stephanie (and her husband Mark) and Stacia (and her husband Jeff), and her cherished grandchildren Jacob, Gracie, and Brady. Her family was her joy, and she carried them in prayer and in pride every day of her life.
Nyda spent many years as a talented hairdresser, bringing not just beauty to others, but also kindness, conversation, and comfort. Never one to stop growing, she returned to school later in life and earned a degree in hospital administration-a true testament to her determination and grace.
She was a proud Baptist, grounded in her faith and strengthened by it. Nyda found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: the sound of the ocean, the joy of a blooming garden, and the thrill of a little luck at the casino. Her laughter was infectious, her presence warm, and her spirit unshakable.
A graveside service will be held to honor her life on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, in Houston, Texas. Family and friends are invited to celebrate a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and walked faithfully.
Though she is no longer with us here, her legacy of love and strength lives on in all who were blessed to know her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
