Mark Edward Sacra Jr.'s Obituary
Mark Edward Sacra Jr, born April 11, 1985, in Houston, TX at Hermann Hospital, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026. Mark attended kindergarten through eighth grade at St. Michael School and went on to become a graduate of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in 2003. Following Strake Jesuit Mark went on to the University of Mississippi where he graduated in 2008. From Ole Miss, Mark moved back to Houston and began his career at DistribAire, Inc, a family-owned business that had recently developed a fire rated duct division. Mark proudly assumed a role working alongside his dad operating that division with much enthusiasm. He quickly developed relationships and took over further development and approval with local jurisdictions and authorities. He was responsible for much of the business development at the time. In 2014 changes in the market conditions led Mark into DistribAire’s mainstream sales of air distribution products. Mark continued and grew in that role through the remainder of his life.
As a child, Mark loved sports. He was a good athlete who went on to play baseball and football through high school. He was an offensive lineman on the 2001 Strake Jesuit College Prep undefeated SJ Hall of Honor team. Football stuck with him as he became an avid spectator, and he was especially proud of his Ole Miss Rebels recent season. He learned to play golf at an early age, and it became his favorite sport to participate in after high school. He grew to be an above average player and really enjoyed playing with family and friends. He loved to play every chance he could locally but particularly enjoyed those rare boondoggles to special places throughout Texas, to Reynolds Plantation or Pebble Beach, or even as far away as Ireland. He especially cherished golf trips with his college buddies and family trips to international courses, much to the chagrin of his non-golf playing mom and sister, Christiana. Just this fall he greatly enjoyed playing courses in the Banff, Canada area, convincing his beloved brother, Stephen, and dad to forego exploring the area to get one more round in.
In his late twenties, Mark got into woodworking, and put together a workshop where he enjoyed the relaxation of the hobby. He mounted quite a collection of machines and tools. Between his woodworking paraphernalia and a massive collection of designer and rare athletic shoes you could fill up a small auditorium!
Around seven years ago Mark found his favorite past time, barbequing smoked meats. He became quite the professional. He was extremely passionate about discovering all of the nuances of great cooking. He and his cooking team of buddies contended in many venues including the biggest of ‘em all – the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. They were very competitive each year, winning first place at the Fort Bend County fair for their fajitas a few years ago, which Mark always liked to remind everyone when they claimed they had eaten some good fajitas. Mark’s passion for and detailed knowledge of his hobbies, whether it be woodworking, barbequing, or the music of Phish was so incredible it made his family and friends want to be a part of it. If you weren’t already a fan of his favorite things he made sure you were after spending a little time with him.
Mark began developing his lifelong friendships in the neighborhood as a young child and continued doing so through St. Michael School, Strake Jesuit, summers at Laity Lodge Youth Camp, Ole Miss, and his professional career. He was a bright light and big personality, and enjoyed meeting new friends through all stages of his life. Mark loved his friends immensely, and he always tried to make sure they knew it. He was a very special “uncle” to many of his friends’ kids. His love for friends didn’t stop with “his people”, he was the proudest dog owner of his pal Biscuit. Everyone who knew Mark, knew Biscuit, otherwise known as “Bubbaroo”. Mark truly enjoyed life and always wanted to share that joy and love. If you were an acquaintance, co-worker, customer, or the most fortunate, a close friend or sibling, you knew you were special. He was a true friend who wanted you to feel his happiness and love for life.
Mark truly loved and enjoyed his extended family of McConns and Sacras, whether it was a wedding, birth, McCocktails, cooking turkeys at Thanksgiving, or just a friendly visit, he loved seeing, congratulating or visiting with his many cousins.
Mark is survived by his loving mother and father, Melissa and Mark Sacra, sister Christiana Sacra, and brother Stephen Sacra, all of Houston, TX, his buddy Biscuit, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and many cherished friends.
A funeral service will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Friday, March 6, 2026 at ten o’clock in the morning. Pallbearers include Stephen Sacra, Kevin Burke, Johnny Michelek, Ryan Poole, Terrence McConn, Reed Barrett, Blake McCarthy, Joe McVay and John Pool. Honorary pallbearers are Townes Burke, Guy Burke, Liles Burke, Casey Bass-Clements, Chris Schillaci and the Texas Pork and Wildlife cooking team.
