Joseph Glenn Murtha's Obituary
Glenn Murtha, 96, of Houston, Texas, passed away Thursday March 16, 2023. He was born March 2, 1927 in Dravosburg, Pennsylvania, and was the 4th of 8 children born to the late John and Marie Murtha.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Louis (Lois), Pierpont OH; William (Audrey), Kenneth, and Robert (Shirley) Murtha all from Elizabeth Township, PA.
He is survived by his spouse of 63 years, Darlene Stirling Murtha of Houston, TX; his children Pam (Mike) Mazor of Ann Arbor, MI and Glenn Murtha of Houston, TX; his grandsons Kevin (Brittany) Mazor of Chicago, IL and Bryan Mazor of Denver Colorado; sister June of Elizabeth Township, PA; sister-in-law Esther of Keyser WV; brothers Ronald (Lita) of Bradenton, FL and James (Jackie) of Elizabeth Township, PA plus many nieces and nephews.
Glenn left high school to volunteer and serve his country in the US Navy during WWII serving in San Francisco, CA and then became a naval aviator during the Korean Conflict, serving in Pensacola, FL.
He attended both The University Of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. He was a lifetime member of the Boston, PA volunteer fire company, and served 3 terms as an Elizabeth Township, PA commissioner. He had a successful business career at Dravo Corporation in Pittsburgh and Brown and Root in Houston.
He was a serious golfer and family BBQ chef, and was a DIYer before it was in vogue. He traveled the world with Darlene and family, and will be known most for his love of dancing. A celebration of Glenn’s life will be held at a later date in Elizabeth Township, PA.
