Jalaane Garrett Haak Orth's Obituary
Jalaane Garrett Haak Orth (92), a longtime resident of Houston, peacefully went to heaven on Monday, October 5, 2020 in the loving company of her family.
She was born in Mesquite Texas on February 7, 1928 to George and Annie Bedford Garrett. She graduated from Mesquite High School and Sacred Heart Dominican with a degree in nursing and was a Registered Nurse. She is past president of Houston Area Occupational Health Nurses, Past Treasurer of Texas State Occupational Health Nurses. She loved her occupation as “company nurse” to Westinghouse Electric, Cameron Iron Works, and Shell Oil Company employees.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter, Harriett Haak; her first husband, Robert Haak; brothers, Ernest Garrett, George Garrett Jr., Lewis Garrett, and Harold Garrett; sisters, Pansy Park, Audra Jorns, and Mildred Behrens Rabalais; her second husband Andrew Orth Jr.; and many other family members and dear friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Haak Roach of Houston, Texas and her son, John Haak and his wife, Beverly, of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Ashley Haak Wills and her husband, Nate, Jay Haak and his wife, Karissa, Riley Roach and his wife, Annie; five great-grandchildren, Hudson Haak, Hadley Haak, Lincoln Wills, Harper Haak, and Scarlett Laane Haak; nieces and nephews, Leanne Garrett Foster, Richard Garrett, Tim Garrett, Sondra Garrett Skaggs, Suzanne Park Nance, David Park, Joan Jorns Atkins, Janet Jorns Carbonari, Jane Jorns VanSanten, Jay Jorns, Alice Behrens Miller, Elizabeth Behrens-Nagle, Rosemary Behrens, Anne Scharlach, and Richard Scharlach.
Jalaane loved walking in the sand, playing bridge, lunching with friends, helping the Astros win, and a PARTY. She enjoyed helping with her children’s and grandchildren’s activities serving as Spring Branch Little League team mom, Northbrook High School band chaperone, taking cookies to school, and chauffeuring.
She gave of her time and resources happily to help out anywhere she could. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed playing bridge and games with friends and family. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, sometimes transporting it all to church as wedding reception volunteer at Spring Branch Christian Church or to Tallowood Joshua class functions.
A graveside service will he held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. Ladies are invited to wear a hat in mom’s honor.
In lieu of flowers please plant a tree or plant in her memory. Memorial contributions may be made to Tallowood Baptist Church or Houston Hospice.
