In 1959-60 I was in the ninth grade at Jane Lone Junior High School. Mr. de Ybarrondo was my homeroom teacher and also my teacher in another class. Everyone loved him. He was young, handsome, kind, fun, and very smart with a twinkle in his eye. AND he was a great teacher. I think all the girls had a crush on him.
He took a great interest in his students. That year I sent him an invitation to my dance recital, never expecting him to come. But he and his wife DID come. I was so honored and pleased.
Several years later, when I was in college, I ran into him in an elevator in Houston. He immediately called me by name. I was very happy to see him.
Mr. de Ybarrondo is one of my all time favorite teachers. I remember him fondly and send my heartfelt sympathy to his family.
