Dr. Elizabeth Johnnie, 75, of Pearland, TX, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, with her husband and son by her side. Born on June 25, 1949, in Chempu, Kerala, India, to Varghese and Mariakutty Kandathil, she is survived by Read Obituary
We shared 60 years of warm friendship, from our early days in India to building new lives in America. Through good times and challenges, our heart-to-heart talks and shared memories brought comfort and connection that I will always treasure.
I am saddened her hear of her passing. She was a woman of faith and kindness. Having met her family at the Gesu, seeing her each Sunday was a joy. No doubt her family accompanied her on this final journey, which would have brought her great peace. Surely she is surrounded by a company of angels to bring her home. Dear Chechi..My earliest memory of you is hearing you sing "Pata Pata" - Miriam Makeba's song from the 70's back in Ibenga.
Of late we've only spoken on the phone and I remember how you'd laugh whenever I cribbed and it was so nice to just speak freely with you and Chettai. I'll always remember your liveliness and your unwavering support. I hope you're in peace and singing somewhere in heaven. Till we meet again. .Lots of love and prayers from all of us at home. RIP.

I saw the announcement of Dr.Elizabeth's sad demise a little while ago. It is definitely a big loss. But everyone close to her including Johnnie, her dear son and grandchildren should be proud of the person she was. We are more or less the same age and underwent the same kind of education prevalent in Kerala at the time. So, I , her colleague at Ibenga,Zambia know her as an intelligent, well-read, confident woman smart enough to be labelled as "much ahead of her times". But I miss her as a loving friend who shared her emotions and thoughts with me. I felt honoured by her love and trust in me. So I know how she cherished the love,care and trust that Johnnie gave her. She was overwhelmed by that and quite sincerely said she almost felt unworthy. That is the kind of gratitude that she felt for genuine love. She was a quick learner in pursuit of knowledge.Yet was willing to seek that from anyone with no trace of vanity. I loved her for her forthright opinion on happenings around the world. Since she left Zambia we corresponded occasionally and the last we met was in 2013. I thank you Johnnie for making that effort. Then last May when I knew of the ill health both of you were under I wanted to meet you. Though we talked at length on the phone you informed me that the health condition wouldn't allow a visit. But Ellen, as we used to call her at Ibenga, I am sure is with her sweet Saviour and from there can see and hear us even better. May God let you, Ellen, have your vigour,cheer and genuine love in heavenly measures.
