I went to work for Liddell Sapp immediately after graduating from law school in 1981. Carroll was the first partner with whom I recall working on a project, the private placement of limited partnership interests for a client raising money for a real estate venture. I remember being impressed by Carroll’s intellect and discipline but also for his respect for the client. That experience helped shape me and hopefully reinforced a positive approach towards my work. Like so many, I was blessed to have known Carroll.

I entered Rice in September of 1954. I recall Carroll as a man of a few words but word that were always worth listening to. I was a pre-law History major and our paths crossed infrequently--I believe our paths probably crossed after graduation more than at Rice. His contributions to community life in Houston, particularly in the realm of Music and the Arts were significant. I was saddened to read of his death. He will be missed.
