Barbara Ann Barcelona's Obituary
Barbara Ann Barcelona, born May 23, 1943 in Abilene, Texas to Vernal and George Steimel, died peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026 in Houston, Texas.
Barbara was cherished by many as a loving and faithful wife, mother, nana, gran B, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. Her kindness and devotion touched the hearts of all who knew her and she enjoyed a life filled with love.
Barbara’s early life was spent in Abilene, Texas where her father was stationed at the Army Airbase during World War II. The family later moved to Houston, Texas where she grew up in the Garden Oaks area. She attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and St. Pius X High School where she met the love of her life, Dennis. They were married in June of 1961 at All Saints Church.
Both of Barbara’s parents were from Indiana and she took pride in her Indiana roots. She had so many fond memories of many summers and Christmases spent there with her grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins.
It goes without saying that Barbara was a social butterfly and loved staying in touch with friends from grade school and high school. She also enjoyed being a member of the Ladies of the Sacred Heart, Champions Golf Club, where she had lunch with her friends every Friday, the St. Pius group, the Colonnetta cousin’s group, and the Tia Maria group, to name a few. She would often be the one organizing the lunches with her friends, which brought her such joy. Barbara was the matriarch and heart of her family and loved to entertain and have everyone together. She was always the gracious host of planning parties, get-togethers, birthdays and every holiday at her home. She and Dennis raised a beautiful family together and were very loving parents. They were very involved in their children’s lives and that love and support continued in their adult lives, as well. I’m sure when getting married at just 18 years old, she never dreamed she’d have four children, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a sixth one on the way.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, George Byron Steimel, mother, Vernal Maxine Steimel and sister, Debbie Steimel.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Denise Barcelona, daughter, Lisa Barcelona Pinina and husband Chris, daughter, Rosanne Barcelona and son, Sammy Barcelona and wife LaErica. Her ten grandchildren affectionately called her Nana: Brad Collins and wife, Jill, Katie Rivera and husband, Alejandro, Cole Miller, Nicholas Pinina, Rose Miller, Brianne Barcelona, Sammy Barcelona, Sophia Piatkowski, Dennis Barcelona and T.J. Barcelona. Her five great grandchildren affectionately called her Gran B: Mila Rivera, Parker Collins, James Collins, Carter Collins, Nathan Collins, and soon to be here, Levi Rivera.
Barbara is also survived by her brother, Stack Steimel and wife, Debby, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Barcelona, as well as a host of family and lifelong friends.
Pallbearers will be Brad Collins, Cole Miller, Nicholas Pinina, Sammy Barcelona, Dennis Barcelona, Zack Steimel and Alejandro Rivera. Honorary Pallbearers are Tommy Colonnetta, Stack Steimel, Tommy Cashiola and Tommy Barcelona.
